My Camera and I are Manly based but we travel all over Sydney and NSW making beautiful Wedding Imagery.
Hi, I’m Lead photographer and Business Owner David and I’m originally from Durham in the North of England, married to Kathy for over 20 years and together we have two children Andres and Lucia.
I love creating with photography and I love making images that resonate with people. I capture the action but also the reaction, the obvious but also the not so obvious, things that had I not been there would simply go unnoticed lost forever.
I shoot weddings with a very unobtrusive and natural style, simply asking a couple to engage with each other instead of with the camera. Quite often clients comment that they forget I am even there. I love getting to know and bringing the best out of all the couples I work with.
Outside of photography, I love to run, especially mountain and trail running. Having never been blessed with great speed I try to make up for this by running stupidly long distances, the hillier the better. My dream race is the Tor des Geants, a 330km piece of insanity around the Italian Alps.
Approach to planning & photographing your Wedding day.
I’m big coffee fan and love meeting prospective clients for a cuppa and to hear your story (the coffee's on me!). As my style of photography is greatly influenced by the relationship I build with clients, I feel that a no obligation meeting is really important for everyone to see if we are the right fit for each other.
Especially when you consider some wedding shoots can last up to and sometimes over 12hrs. However, If we live over a reasonable driving distance apart, a Skype or Facetime call can work just as well !
Firstly we ensure that I’m available for your Wedding date and then we move forward and plan each part of the day together. I put as much time and preparation into planning for the day as it takes to shoot the day itself.
I like to get a couple involved from the get go, we put together a loose photography timeline which will help guide us during the day. I love meeting up with a couple as many times as possible before the day so we can get to know each other a little better before the big day rolls around, this helps everyone relax on the a day
During the planning phase, if possible, we meet up at the venue so we can pick out the best spots for bride and groom photos during the day, this is something that I like to get the couples input in, but if you want to leave it all up to me, thats fine too
As we move closer to the wedding date, I make myself available to answer all your questions and help calm any wedding day nerves, it probably is your first wedding but I have experience in the hundreds.
On the day I arrive early and greet everyone. I shoot what I see which is the essence of candid photography, sometimes I give gentle guidance during the day where its needed. I love interacting with your guests in a fun and relaxed manner and getting everyone involved as much as possible.
However, this is your day and you need to spend the majority of time with your family and friends and not with me. I get the job done and don’t keep you any longer than absolutely necessary - this is where the timeline preparation pays dividends. I am always mindful that you are the client and I am there to create beautiful images for you both to remember your day by. If you want to change anything on the day it is your call.
Within 48hrs after the wedding I put together an app of just a few images from throughout the day for you guys to see while you still in the wedding afterglow. The full set of images will be ready within 3 weeks and then when your ready we start the Album design….but that is another story !
A few FAQs
-
Natural... I encourage the bride & groom to interact with each other instead of with the camera, aiming to capture the emotional relationship that exists between the couple. There will be some subtly posed shots that I feel work well –these often depend on the couple themselves aswell as the location(s)

This is entirely up to you, depending on what elements of the day you want photographed, but to give you some idea my usual wedding shoot day is around 8-9 hours long.
This covers the Bride & groom preparations in the morning, the ceremony itself, family group shots, then location shoot with the bride and groom straight afterwards. The reception then follows at the venue up until (at least) the bridal entry
More and more often though, I am finding that more clients want me there longer into the evening to cover other evening formalities such as cake cutting, speeches and first dance.
(especially if they are getting an album as photographing longer into the evening helps round out the story of the whole day

This is something we work out together when we draw up a photography timeline for the day. But generally speaking you can use the following as a rough guide:
Brides Preparation – 1 1/2 hrs (min)
Grooms Prep – 1 hr
Ceremony – 1hr (approx)
Location shots – 1 - 1 1/2 hrs ( depending on travel distances)
Reception – 1-3 hrs (depending on the timeline of events for the evening)
You also have to allow for travel time between each location for each part of the day

This is dependant on how long I am there for- but on average you will received between 400-500 images for a full day shoot . (This is after editing and removal of duplicate images).
Approx 250-300 for a half day and around 100-150 for an elopemeny/engagement shoot
Again, absolutely, the images from your wedding day are your property and not mine. We ask that we can use a select few (with your permission) on our website and for promotional purposes.
